Morehouse School of Medicine began AHEC in 1984 to improve the distribution of health professionals in underserved areas of metropolitan Atlanta. The service area expanded in 1996, following a merger with the Southeastern Primary Care Consortium (SPCC), a nonprofit, community-based organization, also established by Morehouse.
Now known as SPCC Atlanta•AHEC, we provide a comprehensive array of health professions and health education programs to Fulton, DeKalb and Clayton counties.
Each year, our accomplishments include:
- Providing clinical training to more than 200 health profession students
- Supplying primary care to more than 1,000 migrant farmworkers
- Offering continuing education opportunities to more than 2,800 health professionals
- Presenting health careers awareness programs to more than 7,000 youth and adults
- Training community health workers in South Metro Atlanta
